The TikTok comments API in 2026: who can get TikTok's, and how to export every comment
Key findings
  • TikTok's own comments API is for approved academic and nonprofit research, not for products. Its FAQ answers "Am I eligible?" for creators, advertisers, and commercial users with "No."
  • Everyone else uses a third-party API, and you should check how much of the thread it returns. On small videos, AnyAPI returned practically the whole thread. On big ones, part of TikTok's count never appeared in the list.
  • For a few comments a day, ScrapeCreators' free credits or EnsembleData's trial cover it; for exports into a spreadsheet, Apify bills per comment.
  • For YouTube, start with Google's own API. It's free, and 10,000 quota units a day is up to a million top-level comments.

Every endpoint in this post is one call away. Pay per request in USD from a prepaid wallet, with automatic failover when a provider breaks. No subscription, no card to start.

You want the comments under a TikTok video as rows you can work with: every entry in a giveaway, the complaints under a product launch, or a few thousand comments to run sentiment on. TikTok shows them in the app, and an export button isn't part of that.

TikTok has an API with a comments endpoint, but you probably can't get it. I read TikTok's and Google's developer docs, pulled every comment on 30 TikTok videos and 20 YouTube videos through AnyAPI on October 3, 2026, and priced the rest from their own pages.

Here's what each option is for.

The best TikTok comments APIs

YouTube's official API is a different story, and it has its own section near the end.

What makes a good TikTok comments API?

I'm assuming you're a developer or a marketer with a script, and you need every comment on some public videos you don't own. Here's what I compared.

  • Access you can actually get. An application reviewed over four weeks is fine for a PhD and useless for a launch next week.
  • How much of the thread comes back. TikTok's comment count includes replies, and the comments list doesn't. A good API pages to the last top-level comment and gives you replies as a separate call.
  • Replies. Each comment should say how many replies it has, so you only spend calls on threads that have them.
  • Price at your volume. Prices below are for 100,000 comments, or the vendor's closest unit.
How this was tested, and its limits
  • AnyAPI: I picked 30 TikTok videos from four searches ("giveaway", "skincare review", "easy dinner recipe", "iphone 17 review"), from a handful of comments to over a thousand, and pulled every page of comments on each. I also pulled the full replies for 12 comments, and every comment on 20 recent YouTube videos, all on 2026-10-03.
  • To judge how complete a thread was, I added the comments returned to the replies they say they have and compared that with the count the video shows. I only fetched reply text for those 12 TikTok threads. One TikTok video had lost all its comments by the time I pulled it, so it's left out.
  • Calls ran one at a time from one machine, so treat the speeds as rough.
  • TikTok's Research API, ScrapeCreators, Apify, and EnsembleData weren't run. Their sections are from their own pages on 2026-10-03.

Best TikTok comments API for approved academic and nonprofit research

TikTok Research API

TikTok for Developers, Research Tools page, Who can apply: applicants must be located in an eligible region and affiliated with an eligible organization: academic institutions in the U.S., EEA, UK, Canada, or Switzerland; not-for-profit or independent research bodies in the EU, in beta with select researchers in the U.S., UK, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein; or academic institutions or not-for-profits in Brazil studying online youth safety. Applicants must also have demonstrable expertise and be independent of commercial interests
Who TikTok lets apply for its Research API, October 3, 2026: academic and not-for-profit researchers in listed regions.

TikTok Research API pros:

  • TikTok's own comment data, up to 100 comments a request, with replies by sending a comment's ID
  • No price on TikTok's research pages

TikTok Research API cons:

  • Only for academic and not-for-profit research in eligible regions, with an ethics review and a research proposal
  • TikTok says to expect an answer "within 4 weeks"
  • 1,000 requests a day, and TikTok says it "can't grant exceptions"

TikTok's Query Video Comments endpoint is a real comments API. You POST a video_id and get back up to 100 comments with their text, like count, reply count, parent comment, and timestamp. Send a comment_id instead and you get that comment's replies.

The catch is who gets a key. The Research Tools page lists academic institutions in the U.S., EEA, UK, Canada, or Switzerland, a beta for not-for-profit research bodies, and Brazilian groups studying youth safety. Applicants must "be independent of commercial interests", disclose their funding, and show an ethical review. The FAQ is blunt about everyone else: "I am a creator, advertiser, or commercial user. Am I eligible for access to the Research Tools? No."

TikTok Research Tools FAQ: question 6, I am a creator, advertiser, or commercial user. Am I eligible for access to the Research Tools? No. Question 7, What are the daily quota limits? Currently, the daily limit is set at 1000 requests per day, allowing you to obtain up to 100,000 records per day across our APIs. Video and Comments API can return 100 records per request. The daily quota gets reset at 12 AM UTC. If you believe a quota limit increase is necessary, email Research-API@tiktok.com. We can't grant exceptions
TikTok's Research Tools FAQ, October 3, 2026: commercial users aren't eligible, and approved projects get 1,000 requests a day.

If you qualify, it's the best source there is: approved projects get 1,000 requests a day, which is up to 100,000 comments. If you don't, TikTok's other APIs won't fill the gap. The Display API shows a logged-in creator's own profile and videos, with no comment endpoint. The Commercial Content API covers ads shown in the EU. TikTok's Accounts API, part of TikTok API for Business, can read and manage "comments on owned TikTok videos", which helps a brand answer its own comments and nobody else.

TikTok Research API pricing: no price published. Approved projects get 1,000 requests a day, up to 100,000 records, reset at midnight UTC. Sources: Research Tools and FAQ, October 3, 2026.

Best TikTok comments API for any public video, billed per page

AnyAPI

Bar chart of 29 TikTok videos on October 3, 2026, sorted by the comment count TikTok showed, from 6 to 1,024. Each bar shows top-level comments returned plus the replies they report, as a share of TikTok's count. Of the 19 videos under 100 comments, 11 reached 100% and the lowest was 87%. Larger videos: 112 comments 101%, 147 comments 84%, 165 comments 94%, 177 comments 96%, 189 comments 75%, 236 comments 99%, 321 comments 88%, 362 comments 96%, 394 comments 80%, 1,024 comments 90%
29 TikTok videos paged to the last comment, October 3, 2026. Small threads came back whole; on big ones, part of TikTok's count never appears in the list.

AnyAPI pros:

  • Comments and replies for any public video by URL, 20 comments a page, billed per call from a prepaid wallet
  • Paged to the last comment on every video, including one showing over a thousand
  • Every comment carries its reply count, so you only fetch replies where there are some

AnyAPI cons:

  • Replies are a second endpoint, priced separately
  • You poll for new comments; nothing is pushed to you

AnyAPI takes a video URL and returns 20 top-level comments and a cursor for the next 20. You loop until the cursor is empty.

curl -sS -X POST 'https://api.getanyapi.com/v1/run/tiktok.video_comments' \
  -H "Authorization: Bearer $ANYAPI_API_KEY" \
  -H 'Content-Type: application/json' \

Every comments and replies call came back with a 200, and each was charged the lowest published price. The whole test, searches and YouTube included, cost $0.25.

EndpointCalls on 2026-10-03What came backTypical time
tiktok.video_comments199, every video paged to the endEvery page to the last comment, about 18 comments a page0.6 s
tiktok.comment_replies26, 12 threads paged to the end102 of the 103 replies the comments reported0.6 s
youtube.video_comments75, 20 videos paged to the endEvery page to the last comment2.5 s

Small threads came back whole. On videos with fewer than 100 comments, the comments plus their replies came very close to TikTok's count, and most matched it exactly. The gap grew with the thread, and on some of the biggest, a tenth or more of TikTok's count never showed up. Those are comments TikTok counts but doesn't list, so expect to come up short on a big giveaway.

The biggest thread, a skincare video showing 1,024 comments, took 46 pages and about half a minute, for $0.032.

For the replies, send a comment's id and the video URL to tiktok.comment_replies. The 12 threads tested returned 102 of the 103 replies their comments reported, with the same fields as a comment. Skip comments where replies is 0, and a thread costs one call per page of replies.

AnyAPI pricing: $0.60 per 1,000 calls for comments (20 a page, so $0.03 per 1,000 comments at a full page) and $0.60 per 1,000 calls for replies. A call the cheapest source can't answer goes to a backup, which costs up to $3.60 per 1,000. Prepaid, no plan; new accounts get free credit, no card required.

Best TikTok comments API for prepaid credits that never expire

ScrapeCreators

ScrapeCreators pricing: Free $0 with 100 credits and up to 7,000 bonus credits to claim; Freelance $47 pay as you go for 25,000 credits, $1.88 per 1k requests; Business $497 for 500,000 credits, $0.99 per 1k requests; Enterprise custom for 1M+ credits. Every plan includes every API, credits never expire, no credit card required
ScrapeCreators' credit packs on October 3, 2026: $47 for 25,000 credits, and a comments call is 1 credit.

ScrapeCreators pros:

  • TikTok comments and replies endpoints, 1 credit a request, and the same for YouTube comments
  • 100 free credits with no card, and credits never expire
  • Its page says cached results cost 0 credits

ScrapeCreators cons:

  • The first paid pack is $47

ScrapeCreators has a TikTok comments endpoint that takes a video URL and a cursor, and a replies endpoint that takes the comment ID. Both are 1 credit a request. Its own roundup of TikTok comment scrapers says the same: the count TikTok shows, the top-level rows, and the replies are separate numbers to check.

The credit model suits irregular work. A one-off export of 100,000 comments at 20 a request is about 5,000 credits, which leaves 20,000 of a $47 pack for next time.

ScrapeCreators pricing: 100 free credits, plus up to 1,200 more to claim. Freelance is $47 for 25,000 credits ($1.88 per 1,000 requests), Business $497 for 500,000 ($0.99 per 1,000). Comments and replies are 1 credit each. Sources: scrapecreators.com and docs, November 4, 2026.

Best TikTok comments API for batch exports, billed per comment

Apify TikTok Comments Scraper

The Apify Store pricing tab for TikTok Comments Scraper by Clockworks, maintained by Apify: Comment, single comment in the default dataset, $1.25 per 1,000 on the Free plan and $0.50 per 1,000 on Business with a 60% Gold discount; platform usage included. Rating 4.7 from 99 reviews, 46K total users, 4.6K monthly active users
Clockworks' TikTok Comments Scraper on the Apify Store, October 3, 2026: $1.25 per 1,000 comments on Apify's Free plan, $0.50 on Business, platform usage included.

Apify TikTok Comments Scraper pros:

  • Takes many video URLs in one run and writes a dataset you export as JSON or CSV
  • Billed per comment saved, with platform usage included
  • Busy and maintained: over 50,000 people have used it, per Apify's store

Apify TikTok Comments Scraper cons:

  • $1.25 per 1,000 comments until you're on a paid Apify plan
  • A run is a batch job, so your code waits for it to finish

Clockworks' TikTok Comments Scraper is the Apify actor most people use for this. You give it a list of video URLs, it collects the comments into a dataset, and you download a file or read it over Apify's API. It can run on a schedule, which suits a weekly export of a brand's videos into a sheet.

Paying per comment means you never pay for an empty page, and the price is easy to forecast. At 100,000 comments it's $125 on Apify's Free plan and $50 on Business, where AnyAPI's per-page price is lower at both. If your team already runs things on Apify, that convenience can be worth the difference.

Best TikTok comments API for steady daily volume on a monthly plan

EnsembleData

EnsembleData pricing: Free Trial 50 units a day at $0 a month; Wood 1,500 units a day at $100 a month; Bronze 5,000 units a day at $200 a month; Silver, Gold, and Platinum below. Every plan covers TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, Threads, Reddit, Twitch, Twitter, and Snapchat
EnsembleData's plans on October 3, 2026: $100 a month for 1,500 units a day. A TikTok comments call is 1 unit for 30 comments.

EnsembleData pros:

  • 30 comments per unit, the most per call here, with replies as their own endpoint
  • A free trial at 50 units a day, no card
  • Its page says failed requests caused by internal errors aren't charged

EnsembleData cons:

  • Monthly plans from $100, and units reset at 00:00 UTC each day, so an idle day is lost
  • The endpoint takes TikTok's numeric video ID, not a URL

EnsembleData sells units by the day, and its pricing page prices a TikTok comments call at 1 unit for 30 comments. The $100 Wood plan's 1,500 units a day is up to 45,000 comments a day, every day.

That's a good deal if you collect comments every day, say monitoring a set of creators. For a single export, a pay-per-call option costs less than a month's plan.

EnsembleData pricing: free trial at 50 units a day. Wood is $100 a month for 1,500 units a day, Bronze $200 for 5,000, Silver $400 for 11,000. Post comments are 1 unit for 30 comments. Source: ensembledata.com/pricing, November 4, 2026.

What about YouTube comments?

YouTube Data API Overview, Quota usage: projects that enable the YouTube Data API have a default quota allocation of 100 search.list calls, 100 videos.insert calls, and 10,000 units per day combined for all other endpoints. Note: if you reach the quota limit, you can request additional quota with the Quota extension request form. A read operation that retrieves a list of resources usually costs 1 unit
Google's YouTube Data API overview, October 3, 2026: 10,000 units a day, and a list call usually costs 1 unit.

YouTube is the opposite of TikTok: the official API is free, open to anyone with a Google account, and the right place to start. commentThreads.list takes a videoId and returns up to 100 top-level comments a page for 1 quota unit. A project gets 10,000 units a day by default, so that's up to a million top-level comments a day before you ask Google for more.

One thing to know: the replies that come with each thread are "a subset of the total number of replies", in Google's words. For every reply, call comments.list with the comment's ID as parentId, also 1 unit a page.

A paid API makes sense for YouTube when you'd rather not set up a Google Cloud project, or when you already pull TikTok comments and want one key and one response shape for both. AnyAPI's youtube.video_comments takes a video or Shorts URL, returns 20 comments a page, and sorts by top or newest. On the 20 videos tested, the comments plus their replies came within a few percent of YouTube's count, at about 2.5 seconds a page. It costs $0.80 per 1,000 calls.

If you want a file instead of code, Apify's YouTube Comments Scraper charges $2.00 per 1,000 comments on Apify's Free plan and $0.90 on Business (October 3, 2026). AnyAPI's free YouTube comment analyzer sums up a video's comments with no code at all.

Which TikTok comments API should you use?

  • You're an academic or nonprofit researcher in an eligible region: apply for TikTok's Research API.
  • You manage a brand's own TikTok account and want to answer comments: TikTok's Accounts API.
  • You need comments and replies from any public video, from code, pay as you go: AnyAPI.
  • You pull comments now and then and want credits that never expire: ScrapeCreators.
  • You want a CSV of many videos' comments, on a schedule: Apify's TikTok Comments Scraper.
  • You collect comments every day at steady volume: EnsembleData.
  • You need YouTube comments: Google's YouTube Data API, free.

Whichever you pick, compare what you got against the count the video shows, and fetch replies where the count says they exist. The TikTok API page lists all of AnyAPI's TikTok endpoints, and how to scrape TikTok covers profiles, videos, and search.

Frequently asked questions

Does TikTok have an API for comments?
Yes, but only for approved research. TikTok's Research API has a Query Video Comments endpoint that returns up to 100 comments a request, and you apply for it as an academic or not-for-profit researcher in an eligible region. TikTok's FAQ says creators, advertisers, and commercial users aren't eligible. Its Accounts API also lets a business manage comments on videos it owns.
Can I get TikTok comment replies through an API?
Yes. Replies come from a separate call that takes the parent comment's ID. TikTok's Research API does it by sending a comment_id instead of a video_id, and AnyAPI, ScrapeCreators, and EnsembleData each have their own replies endpoint. Each comment tells you how many replies it has, so you know which ones are worth the extra call.
Why doesn't the number of comments I export match the count TikTok shows?
TikTok's count includes replies, and the comments list returns top-level comments only. Even with the replies added back, some comments are in TikTok's count but never show up in the list. In this test that gap was tiny on small videos and grew with the size of the thread.
Is the YouTube comments API free?
Yes. The YouTube Data API's commentThreads.list costs 1 quota unit for up to 100 comments, and a Google Cloud project gets 10,000 units a day by default. You need a Google account, a project, and an API key, and you can ask Google for more quota with its extension form.

TikTok comments as clean JSON, $0.0006 for a page of 20, no plan and nothing that expires. New accounts get free credit, no card required.
